RE: Sunrise from Colorado

I also love the sunrises in the west. I took these while I lived in Los Alamos, NM.

Why would they rust, if you keep anti freeze in the system?

RE: Help!! First Time RV'r.... Can't get generator to crank

Do you have any 12 volt current anywhere? Otherwise will the motorhome engine turn over? Do you have headlights?

RE: Ford 460 valve problems

Do you know whether he will rebuild or replace the engine? I think I'd go for a new engine.
I was the manager at that shop when that car showed up. We replaced the engine.
.
No, I haven't heard anything since he started tearing it down, except the valve head was smashed into the piston, from smashing into the head. The valve head just broke off. It is just hard for me to believe that the overheating problem would cause two exhaust valves to break off a couple of month apart

I think he is planning on possibly replacing the head since there is some damage to it.
I had never heard of any real problems with the 460, but couldn't figure he why lost valves on both heads. I figured if there had been a problem some of you guys would know about it.
Thank you for all the responses. He is in Pirate Land Campground and they are leaving him work on it there.

RE: CB channel?

KGC7242 back when licenses were required. I gave that call sign so much I still remember it over 35 years later. Am I dating myself?
Yes you are but I can top that: 17W3288. When that expired, they changed me to KGI3126. That was in the 60s.
1961 mine was 19A9585, I think, and then 19Q0429.

Ford 460 valve problems

A friend of mine's son-in-law bought a 98 MH with a Ford 460 and about 45,000 miles. The owner told him he had replaced both heads recently. About 2 months later he had an exhaust valve break off and lodge in top of the piston on the right bank. He had head machined and new valve, plus replaced the piston. Last Friday he was going to Mrytle Beach and just before arriving there he lost a valve on the other side of the engine. It also broke the piston. I've never heard of this problem with the 460 before. A fellow that used to work for a Ford garage said it was a problem they had when they had been overheated. The present owner did replace the clutch fan and said it's running cooler.
Question I have is, has anyone heard of a valve problem on the 460 and what is the cause? I have to question why the heads were replaced at 45000 miles.

RE: CB channel?

We use 19 so we can hear if anything if happening ahead or if they see something wrong with our rig. We tried to contact a fifth wheeler on 13 & 19 to tell him he had a flat on the right rear tire. It was getting pretty hot. No place to pass so had to wait. Finally was able to pass and got him to pull over. He said he had the CB turned off. Lucky he didn't burn up his trailer.

RE: Un-desireable campsites ...

We've stayed in private and government campgrounds and usually have had good luck with the KOAs. Best campground we've stayed in was Darlington Provincial Campground in Ontario Canada. Very large spaces, ultra clean restroom & showers, and camping area was clean as a pin.

RE: Ok, who is the oldest active RV'er here? Or maybe

I'll be 72 in November and just removed the refrigerator and replaced the cooling unit, myself. Washing and waxing are no problem. I did take it in to have the broken bolts removed from the exhaust manifolds and had the manifolds machined flat. I would have done that if I was five years younger.

RE: Attention Past and Present Bounder Owners..your .02 please.

I bought mine new in 92. Only coach problems I've had in 16 years are, generator switch replaced two years ago, furnace had to be taken out and cleaned two years ago, and this year put a new cooling unit in refrigerator. Not bad for 16 years.

RE: roadside assistance comparison

I am also wanting to renew my ERS. Question is, how do you get Coach Net? Do you have to go through a dealer that sells it? I went to their web site and can't find how. Thanks JackJack, Call their 877-801-0333 number and ask for member services. If you belong to one of the clubs they are affiliated with, they reduce the price some. Even on renewal, I call and ask for the best unpublished renewal rate and it is usually a few dollars less than the published rates. I also use their 3 year rate, as it is the best bang for the buck.
Thanks much. I now belong. Thanks again.

RE: Tire Blow Out

That is why it is nice to have a CB. We tried to tell a couple pulling a fifth wheeler, that they had a blown tire. But driving on a two lane road, we couldn't pass them for several mile. Finally got around him and let him know. I tried to call them on CB, he had one, but didn't have it on.
